Folklore Show

Folklore ShowThe Hungarian State Folk Ensemble (Budai Vigadó), the Danube Folk Ensemble and Rajkó Folk Ensemble (in the Danube Palace) are three of the best Hungarian folk ensembles with the longest tradition (the first one was formed in 1951, and the second one in 1957), which have performances all around the country and abroad.

All the three of the Ensembles consist of 30 artists. Their choreographies are based on authentic dances. Some of them were collected in isolated villages and date back hundreds of years. Through the performed dances you can get a broad view of the music, dance and costume heritage of Hungary and the Hungarian inhabited areas.

Danube Symphony Orchestra

Danube Symphony OrchestraThe Danube Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1961. Since then they have given many performances both in Hungary and abroad. The Orchestra consists of 60 professional musicians.

Their repertoire covers almost every musical style from the Baroque music to music of the 20th century. Their permanent concert hall is the theatre of the Danube Palace, Budapest (sitting map of the Danube Palace) (Duna Palota; Zrínyi utca 5.) Apart from the concerts they organize both for adults and children, they regularly play at various musical events held in Budapest. They are frequent guests at the Music Academy, at the Vigadó, at the Stephanie Palace and at the Convention Centre.

They have had international contacts since 1983 and have been invited to play in many foreign countries. They have often accompanied solo artists at music competitions and participated in colourful operettas, ballets and oratorio performances as well.

Not only do the musicians work together in this orchestra but in several chamber orchestras as well. Besides their permanent conductor András Deák, they are often conducted by other Hungarian and foreign conductors. Many Hungarian and foreign guest artists have performed with the orchestra, including Giuseppe di Stefano from Italy, James Galway, a flautist from Ireland and Ray Charles, the jazz star from the USA. They have given performances in Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy.

Organ Concert in the St. Anne Church

St. Anna Church concertThe St. Anne Church makes home for our organ-concert series. The St. Anne Church is one of the most beautiful baroque buildings of Budapest. The construction of the church started in 1740, according to the plans of Kristóf Hamon, and was completed by Mátyás Nepauer in 1761. In the next 200 years the church suffered from wars, floods and earthquakes, even it was planned to be demolished, owing to the construction of the metro network. Fortunately this plan was not realised, and the church was reconstructed between 1970-1984.Address: Batthyány tér 7. Budapest 1011

The programme of the concert was adapted for the organ of this church by Gábor Lehotka, professor of the Academy of Music in Budapest. Anasztázia Bednarik, Miklós Teleki and László Attila Almásy regularly give concerts in Hungary, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
